Honesty From Dreamhost
Some of you may know, if you have read my about page, that I use Dreamhost as the host for this site, as well as for a few others. Over the past couple months or so, Dreamhost has been experiencing some severe network issues, causing many of their customers to question whether or not to switch hosts. Luckily, I haven’t had many problems. There has been an occasional bit of downtime or slow server response, but overall it has been minimal and the trouble was quickly resolved. I have no plans to change hosts and still recommend Dreamhost to people. One of the reasons is that despite the black-eye that Dreamhost was (is) getting because of all this trouble, they remained honest with their customers and kept them informed; see Anatomy of a(n ongoing) Disaster.. and Anatomy of a Disaster, Part 2. Even though the trouble was mainly their own fault, they admitted it openly and are working to make sure it doesn’t happen again. That is something you do not see much of these days. So many times you hear of companies keeping their customers in the dark about issues and then feeding them only small tidbits of information. Besides the continual notices on the Dreamhost Status page, they also maintain a very open and honest blog. I highly recommend bookmarking both if you are a current Dreamhost customer.

They seem good to me. Only once have I tried to post to my site and they have been down. Now about my redesign….
